A Designer and a Tiny Stable of Authors
Based in the Pacific Northwest, Wyrd Goat Press, LLC is proud to offer great books, plus book design services provided by owner Kamila Miller. We’ve been (officially) Wyrd since 2011! But we’ve been working as freelance writers for a lot longer. We’ve watched the publishing industry change radically, mostly in good ways, but also in ways that can challenge everyday authors trying to make a living.

HOW WE GOT STARTED
Born in 2010
Wyrd Goat Press, LLC started selfishly. My husband and I were already published authors in the ‘legacy’ or ‘traditional’ arena and we wanted to self-publish work that didn’t fit into the traditional market at the time. Also, traditional publishing is slow, in that an individual author may be limited to one book a year, depending on a publisher’s schedule and size. We don’t always, but we can write faster than that. The third factor was that many publishers, in their boilerplate contracts, have non-compete clauses. For some of our projects, it would be against our own self-interest as authors to sign such contracts. Finally, as an artist and designer, I was starting to get regular work on small projects for authors in my circle.
It was time to form a business that works for authors at their pace, and that honors their aesthetics, so they can reach beyond the limitations of ‘normal’ publishing models.
Based in the PacNW
We’re very happy to live in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge, on a small acreage farm with a herding dog, a few pet goats, and of course cats. In addition to pasture, we maintain a small orchard, a productive garden, and ornamental gardens that feature a pond, native plants, and soil-based, pesticide-free restorative growing practices that support wildlife.
A Human and Humane Ethos
I believe in the power of people: in their resilience, intelligence, and compassion. I believe in taking good care of customers, and helping authors create the best product they can for their readers. I also believe in the value of living things. I believe in taking care of our land, and supporting the regeneration of ecosystems. To me, this is all one ethic of doing the best I can in all aspects of my work. Besides, hand-pulling invasive species and building natural structures from materials sourced on our property is good exercise! It’s weird, but it works for me and hopefully helps everyone in the long run.
